The Provincial Medical Directorate, Matabeleland North has donated mosquito control chemicals to the city of Bulawayo as a mitigatory measure to curb the spread of the insects in the city.
The Director of Health Services Zanele Hwalima reported that the department had received 198 x 500g of the above insecticide from the Provincial Medical Directorate, Matabeleland North for use in the mosquito control programme.
"The insecticide was a larvicide for the control of mosquito larvae in stagnant pools and bodies of water. It was an environmental-friendly insecticide that had no tendency to bio-accumulate in the environment as was the case with the chemicals we are currently using," reads the council minutes. "This gesture from Matabeleland North was greatly appreciated."
