A Masvingo based Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) cop is in trouble after being caught in possession of $40 in his vehicle which was parked 50 metres away from the road block site yesterday (Friday).
Sources close to investigations said a retention team from Masvingo Rural police comprising of three cops was on duty along Mbalabala road when two Superintendents carried out a spot check.
"The two senior officers noticed a Lexus vehicle registration number ADD 9808 parked 50 metres from the roadblock site prompting them to investigate.
"The vehicle belonged to one constable Magara 068515X who was escorted by the two Superintends identified as Ncube and Muchiriwatu who searched the vehicle and found Magara's wallet containing his drivers' licence and US$40 but had not declared the money in the police occurrence," said the source.
Corruption in the force has become a cancer though the ministry is trying hard to curb the trend but the harsh economic environment seems to be pushing the system to the extremes.
