BREAKING: Evan Mawarire arrested in Harare

One of the leaders of the "#ThisFlag" shutdown protest movement,  pastor Evan Mawarire has reportedly been detained at the Harare International Airport.

Mawarire was returning to the country after he left last year.

Bulawayo24.com heard that  by 5pm Mawarire was taken to a private room by suspected security details.

South African journalist Simon Allison twitted " I watched @mawarire get hauled out of the immigration line into an adjacent room.

"Room is filled with security personnel"

Heal Zimbabwe also posted saying "#BreakingNews Pastor Evan Mawarire of #ThisFlag Movement arrested at Harare International Airport upon return.

"Currently under custody".

Mawarire was at the forefront of  a string of  protests last year.

In April of that year, Mawarire posted a video on Facebook attacking state corruption and the government's failure to provide basic services.

He wore a Zimbabwean flag in the video, which led to the naming of the campaign "ThisFlag."
