HARARE - Former NMB and MBCA CEO David Hatendi died unexpectedly in his sleep last night.
Hatendi, the country's first black Rhodes scholar, was currently chairman of the Rhodes Trustees and Northern Tobacco.
Dr Hatendi left the then troubled NMB just three months after it emerged that the bank had been defrauded of over US$6,3 million.
Dr Hatendi left the bank to pursue personal interests.
Hatendi assumed the reins at NMB in 2004 when its former directors â€" Julius Makoni, James Mushore, Otto Chekeche and Francis Zimuto â€" fled the country at the height of the banking crisis.
Before joining NMB, Hatendi was with the Merchant Bank of Central Africa (MBCA).
A true gentleman, he will be sorely missed by the financial community.
