Two Gokwe farmers have won the national small scale farmers competition and have been given an opportunity to mingle with their peers on the global stage.
From the dusty dry soils of Gokwe, to the glamour and glitzy of New York, is the Cinderella story of two local small scale farmers.
The awe-struck farmers could not hide their excitement as they told their journey of survival and continuous tilling of the land.
They fondly told the state media that theirs is a journey of struggle and survival against all odds, never mind that Gokwe is one of the driest areas in Zimbabwe.
Prevailing against such odds earned the couple a trip to the US for an international conference of small holder farmers from various countries around the world.
As the two farmers take off, they say land will always be their source of livelihood as they call for support from all Zimbabweans.
The seed house which sponsored the competition says these small scale farmers should be constantly and consistently supported as they are the key producers in the nation's food security.
To these farmers it is just one step to history, but hope is they will be an example to their peers who continue to strive to produce food for the nation even against all odds.
