AN argument over the illegal dumping of diapers cost a 31-year-old Trenance man his life after he was stabbed to death on Friday by a fellow resident following a heated exchange.
The deceased, Peter Wilson Asher, was fatally stabbed with a sharp object on the lower chest by Tinashe Machaka who also stays in the same suburb.
The duo had boarded a commuter omnibus (kombi) on their way home when a misunderstanding ensued after 7PM.
Bulawayo acting provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, confirmed the murder case.
"On Friday, at around 7.50PM, both the deceased and the accused boarded a kombi heading to their place of residence in Trenance.
"Along the way, a misunderstanding arose over the issue of diapers scattered everywhere in Trenance suburb," she said.
"The kombi stopped at Trenance, where the deceased and the accused disembarked. The two exchanged words and started fighting.
"The accused removed an unidentified sharp object from his left leg socks and stabbed the now deceased on the left lower chest," said Asst Insp Msebele.
After stabbing Peter, the accused ran away leaving his victim bleeding. Witnesses then rushed the now deceased to Mpilo Central Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Asst Insp Msebele said a report was made to the police who received a tip-off that the accused was still loitering in town.
"Using the information, the police managed to apprehend the accused who is now helping with investigations," she said.
The police are on record expressing concern over the upsurge in murder cases witnessed around the country and have urged members of the public to resolve their differences amicably.
In a separate incident on Sunday, a 21-year-old man was found dead in a suspected murder case along Leopold Takawira Road near Bulawayo's Centenary Park.
