In a breakthrough following a violent armed robbery at Pircy Farm in Goromonzi, police have arrested one of the six suspects captured on CCTV as they ransacked the property, escaping with US$3,000 and valuables worth an estimated US$10,000.

The robbers, wielding machetes and pistols, gained entry to the property on November 3 by cutting through the backyard fence. They accessed the farmhouse through an open kitchen door and assaulted the owners before looting the premises. The stolen items included cash, clothing, electronics, jewelry, groceries, and three firearms. The firearms, including two shotguns and a pellet gun, were later found abandoned in the farm's backyard.

Following the release of CCTV images of the suspects, the police appealed to the public for assistance, which led to the identification and arrest of one of the suspects.

In a statement, National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of Sarezi Shonhiwa, aged 57, who was apprehended on November 9 at Zin'anga Village in Seke. "The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Sarezi Shonhiwa in connection with the robbery at Pircy Farm," Nyathi said.

Shonhiwa reportedly confessed to his involvement and named accomplices, identifying Godfrey Mapanzure, Brian Chiyanwa, Tawanda Manokore, and an individual known as Mhofu as members of the gang.

The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities actively pursuing the other suspects. Police continue to urge the public to provide any additional information that could lead to further arrests.
