Zimbabwe senior men's soccer team, Warriors midfielder Kundai Benyu, has made a surprising move to join Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants CAPS United.
Benyu arrived in the country from the United Kingdom (UK) on Saturday afternoon and was welcomed by the CAPS United team, led by head coach Lloyd Chitembwe and club legend Alois Bunjira.
The 27-year-old midfielder is seeking to revive his football career after spending the entire last year without a club in the UK, where he was plying his trade.
The UK-born midfielder signed a two-year contract with CAPS United, which will see him play for the Green Machine until December 2026.
Makepekepe becomes the first local topflight league side that Benyu will feature for, having previously played for clubs such as Ipswich in England and Scottish giants Celtic.
CAPS United has been quietly active during the ongoing transfer window, making notable signings to strengthen the squad. In addition to Benyu, the Harare-based side has also secured the services of Ghananian goalkeeper Stephen Osai Kwaku, who joins as a replacement for Tonderai Mateyaunga, now with Simba Bhora.
However, Makepekepe has seen departures of key players including energetic defender Godknows Murwira and midfielder Kingsley Mureremba, who have moved to league newcomers Scottland FC.
Additionally, veteran players Bruce Kangwa, Ralph Kawondera, and Lot Chiwunga will not feature for the team in the 2025 league season.
CAPS United will be looking to rebuild and maintain competitiveness in the upcoming season with their new signings, including the experienced Benyu, who brings a wealth of international experience to the squad.
