A 24-year-old man from Nyanga, Manicaland Province, has been fined US$80 after being caught wearing clothes he had stolen from his mother.

Simbarashe Chinjikupi was taken to court by his mother, Theresa Nyamuda (60), after he stole a blouse, a T-shirt, and two pairs of trousers for personal use on April 26, 2019.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Chinjikupi was later seen wearing the stolen items. When confronted by his mother, he reportedly became violent, forcing her to flee to a neighbor's home for safety.

The court ordered Chinjikupi to pay an US$80 fine or serve 15 days in prison. Additionally, he was instructed to pay US$20 in restitution as some of the stolen clothing items were not recovered.
