President Emmerson Mnangagwa has joined leaders from across the world in mourning the passing of Namibia's inaugural President, Dr. Sam Nujoma, who tragically died on Sunday in a helicopter crash. Nujoma, a towering figure in Namibia's liberation struggle and a stalwart of African independence, was 95.

In his condolence message, President Mnangagwa expressed profound sorrow, describing Nujoma as a key pillar of African liberation and a lifelong advocate for independence.

"I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Namibia's founding President, Dr. Sam Nujoma," Mnangagwa said. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed his condolences, stating, "Africa has lost a monumental figure whose life's work transcended borders. President Nujoma's relentless pursuit of justice and equality serves as an enduring inspiration to all."

Kenyan President William Ruto called Nujoma a "true patriot," adding, "President Nujoma's dedication to his people's sovereignty and dignity will continue to inspire future generations."

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema described the news as deeply saddening, praising Nujoma as a "Pan-Afrikanist, nationalist, and freedom fighter whose legacy will live forever."

The Cuban ambassador to Namibia also mourned the loss, calling Nujoma "an icon of the fight against apartheid and a great unconditional friend of Cuba." The ambassador extended condolences to Nujoma's family and the Namibian people, noting his invaluable contributions to global struggles for freedom and justice.
