Knife gang pounces on inDrive driver

A 30-year-old Morningside-based InDrive taxi driver is counting his losses and grappling with trauma following a harrowing robbery in the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to police reports, the driver received a request to pick up a female passenger from Palace Hotel at around 4 a.m. What seemed like a routine trip quickly turned into a nightmare.
After dropping the woman off along Park Road, the driver was ambushed by three men who appeared suddenly from the darkness.
"Three men suddenly appeared from nowhere, like ghosts in the dark," a police source revealed. "They opened his car doors and flashed those nasty okapi knives. Imagine the fear."
The attackers threatened the driver into silence as they ransacked his vehicle, making off with a Huawei P40 cellphone, a small bag, US$90 in cash, a modulator, and even a 5-litre container of engine oil.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele urged fellow taxi drivers to exercise caution.
"We appeal to taxi drivers to be careful of the people they engage. These criminals are targeting you. We urge them to install trackers on their vehicles for their own safety," she said.
Inspector Msebele also called on the public to assist in the investigation.
"We appeal to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the accused persons to come forward and assist with our investigations."
As of yesterday, no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
