Zimbabwe Cricket Vice Chairman dies

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) Vice Chairman Sylvester Matshaka has died at the age of 76 following a short illness.

ZC confirmed that Matshaka passed away at West End Clinic in Harare on Friday, marking the end of a long association with the country's cricket administration.

Matshaka joined the Zimbabwe Cricket Board in 2006 and was appointed Vice Chairman in 2015, serving in various leadership roles for almost two decades.

During his time with Zimbabwe Cricket, Matshaka played a key role in the organisation's development, including the country's return to Test cricket in 2011. He was also involved in promoting grassroots cricket programmes and supporting efforts to strengthen the organisation's financial sustainability.

Beyond cricket, Matshaka had a distinguished career in education and public service. He served as headmaster of Marlborough High School, President of the National Association of Secondary School Heads, Provincial Education Director for Mashonaland East and later Deputy Director of Sport and Culture.

Zimbabwe Cricket described his contribution as significant, noting his commitment to the growth of the sport and the broader development of young people through education and sport.

Burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
