Zanu-PF cracks the whip

ZANU PF's Mashonaland Central Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) has taken stern action against the Mazowe District Coordinating Committee (DCC), citing gross failure to adhere to party procedures and constitutional obligations as outlined in the party's greenbook.

The disciplinary crackdown has resulted in the issuance of a prohibition order against Mazowe DCC chairperson Tafadzwa Musarara, pending a disciplinary hearing set for 13 June.

The decision was announced during a full DCC meeting held on Friday at Nzvimbo in Mazowe Central, where a PEC delegation led by provincial vice chairperson Christopher Magomo laid bare the committee's transgressions.

Magomo stated that Mazowe was the only district in the province that had failed to submit its cell registers by the April deadline, a key constitutional requirement. He further lamented the DCC's failure to convene monthly meetings or submit reports over the past three years.

"We have come here as a province to set the record straight on the PEC's recommendation for a prohibition order against Musarara. The decision was unanimous. Mazowe has not only failed to submit cell registers but has also consistently neglected to fulfil basic administrative duties required by the greenbook," said Magomo.

He also criticised the DCC's poor mobilisation record during national programmes, describing it as a dereliction of duty.

"This is not a matter of lack of resources - it's a failure of commitment. Mazowe is home to some of the party's most senior provincial and national leaders, and such performance levels are tantamount to sabotage," he added.

The DCC was issued a seven-day ultimatum to submit the outstanding cell registers. In the interim, DCC vice chairperson Dominic Chimumba has assumed the role of acting chairperson and will oversee compliance with the PEC's directives.

The committee was also tasked with organising by-elections in Ward 19 following the recent death of councillor Nelson Mutauri.

Central Committee member Patience Tapomwa echoed the sentiments of disappointment and urged members to put the party's interests first.

"It's embarrassing that Mazowe, a district of such standing, has failed to deliver on its core mandates. We must unite and work towards restoring order and credibility," she said.

When reached for comment on Monday, Musarara simply stated, "No comment, I am out of the country."

The developments signal a growing demand for accountability within ZANU PF structures as internal performance and discipline come under increased scrutiny.
