The Seventh Day Adventist Church, through its Dorcas Ministries at Beacon of Hope, has begun offering food, free medical assistance, and emotional support to struggling members of the community in a bid to spread hope and compassion.
Tariro Mapuma, leader of the Dorcas Ministry, told Southern Eye that the inaugural outreach event gathered 17 individuals facing various hardships, providing them with essentials such as nutritious meals, warm clothing, and healthcare support.
"This marks a significant milestone as it is the first of many weekly efforts planned by Dorcas Ministries here in the city," Mapuma said.
The women-led ministry focused not only on physical aid but also on empowering beneficiaries emotionally and spiritually, with counselling services made available to those in need.
"It is not just about meeting physical needs; we want to empower them emotionally and spiritually as well," Mapuma emphasized.
Recognizing the scope of need in the community, the church is now calling on local businesses, organizations, and individuals to form sustainable partnerships and sponsorships to support the initiative.
"We are appealing to local stakeholders to join us in this noble cause. Together, we can make a profound impact on the lives of those who need it most," Mapuma said.
Dorcas Ministries aims to be a beacon of hope for the homeless and vulnerable, laying the groundwork for a brighter, more compassionate future through continued outreach and community collaboration.
