Man charged with murder over US$10 dispute

A 23-year-old man from Dzivaresekwa 2 appeared in Harare Magistrates Court on Saturday, facing murder charges after allegedly killing his relative during a dispute over a missing US$10. Obert Chanetsa was remanded in custody to September 27 pending his indictment for trial at the High Court.
The State reported that on August 24, 2025, around 7am, Chanetsa allegedly assaulted Nicolas Chanetsa at 1738/23 Mashambanzou Street. The two reportedly argued after Obert accused Nicolas of stealing his money. The altercation escalated, and Obert allegedly struck Nicolas multiple times on the head with a blunt object, causing severe injuries.
The victim was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Obert fled the scene and went into hiding in Dotito, where police eventually apprehended him on September 11, 2025.
