A sombre mood has engulfed Gwiriri Village under Chief Mutasa in Honde Valley after a 35-year-old man, George Munyuki, took his own life following a domestic dispute with his wife over family savings.

Manicaland Acting Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the tragic incident, which occurred last Friday.

According to police, Munyuki and his wife, Violet Nyabawa (25), quarrelled on their way home from a local shopping centre over alleged reckless spending of their savings. The altercation prompted Nyabawa to spend the night at a neighbour's house.

When she returned the following morning around 7am, she found the main door locked from the inside. She called Munyuki's friend, Martin Mambondiyani (43), who managed to gain entry through a window.

Nyabawa then discovered her husband hanging from a burglar bar inside their bedroom. A note left behind instructed her to sell their rabbits and use the proceeds to transport his body to his rural homestead.

"Tengesa tsuro undiendese kumusha kwangu" (sell the rabbits and take my body to my rural home), read part of the suicide note.

Police attended the scene, and Munyuki's body was taken to Bonda Mission Hospital mortuary.
