Masvingo airport remains operational

The Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ) has confirmed that Masvingo Airport in Masvingo province remains operational, although its services are currently limited to chartered flights with a maximum passenger capacity of 50.
ACZ Public Relations and Communications Manager Tonderai Mangombe addressed the issue during a media briefing at the airport on 24 September 2025, dismissing claims that the facility was non-functional. He explained that while commercial airlines do not yet operate to Masvingo, the airport continues to serve smaller charter flights.
"The airport is working. It accommodates chartered flights, mostly with capacities of up to 50 passengers. What people should understand is that the absence of commercial flights does not mean the airport is closed," Mangombe said.
He further outlined ACZ's plans to transform Masvingo Airport into a major hub supporting the province's tourism and economic growth. Proposed developments include attracting investors for airport expansion and constructing a five-star hotel and modern motel nearby, aimed at facilitating even international flights.
"The airport is ready for expansion, and we are calling upon investors to come on board so that we unlock its full potential. With proper infrastructure in place, Masvingo has the capacity to be a top tourist destination like Victoria Falls," Mangombe added.
The initiative comes in response to long-standing calls from tourism stakeholders for improved air connectivity, which would enhance access to key attractions in the province, including the Great Zimbabwe Monuments, Lake Mutirikwi, and Gonarezhou National Park.
