The City of Bulawayo has issued a stern warning to home seekers over the illegal sale of residential stands in Umganin Phase IV, cautioning that unscrupulous developers could leave buyers out of pocket.

In a statement, Town Clerk Christopher Dube named three companies  -  Veluntina Investments, Cabin Lock Enterprises (t/a Cabin Lock Construction), and Heavenview Properties  -  accused of selling stands before completing the required servicing and official commissioning.

"These companies were tasked with servicing stands on Lots 1 to 4 using their own resources and were precluded from selling the stands before the project was complete and commissioned," Dube said.

He stressed that selling the stands prematurely constituted a direct breach of service agreements, and warned that the council would not hesitate to cancel agreements if violations persisted. "This serves as an official notice to the developers to abide by the terms and conditions or risk cancellation," Dube added.

The council also urged potential buyers to exercise caution. "Members of the public must be careful when looking for stands to buy, as they risk losing their hard-earned cash if service agreements are cancelled," Dube said.

Bulawayo residents have increasingly faced challenges with fly-by-night developers and land barons who promise serviced stands but fail to deliver, leaving buyers stranded and out of pocket. The council's warning is a timely reminder for the public to verify projects before making payments.
