Bulawayo music lovers are in for a treat this weekend as veteran guitarist and musician Jeys Marabini takes the stage at Palace Hotel for a live performance of his latest album, Umjolo. The show, set for Friday evening, will feature support from Rhumba artist Mcebisi Mlilo of Amathonga Amahle, riding high on his 2024 release Soft Life.

"It'll be my first time performing there, and I'm looking forward to introducing my music to a whole new audience. This is a time for fans to feel the live essence of the album," Marabini said.

Umjolo, Marabini's 10th album, is a 10-track journey exploring his life, emotions, and cultural roots. The album includes songs such as Ngezama Lobolo, Themba Lami Likuwe, Mazwane, and the title track Umjolo. To achieve its distinctive sound, the project was recorded across four studios: Loud Records, Just Percy Studios, Elephant Head Studios, and P3 Studios.

"Umjolo is a celebration of life. It blends experiences, love, unity, peace, and respect for culture," Marabini said. "Each track takes listeners through life's highs and lows, touching on themes like loyalty, hope, disappointment, and faith."

The album also features visuals directed by filmmaker Matesu Dube, and a talented roster of young creatives and instrumentalists, including Mzoe 7, Smallz, Master H on bass, Thomas Madurure on lead guitar, and backing vocalists Brian Awa, Khulekani, and Gazi Elimnyama.

Marabini reflected on the creative process, acknowledging some challenges with younger collaborators but emphasizing the joy of producing an album that reflects his growth. "Seven years after my last album, Umjolo shows my maturity as an artist. I've incorporated brass instruments and created songs that appeal to young listeners, middle-aged fans, and older audiences alike," he said.

Fans can expect a memorable evening as Marabini brings the album's rich storytelling and vibrant sound to life on stage.
