Zanu-PF Bikita South legislator Energy Mutodi has been dismissed as chairperson of Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Budget, Finance and Investment Promotion following his recent social media allegations that Finance Ministry permanent secretary George Guvamatanga received kickbacks on Treasury payments.
Mutodi, who later withdrew the claims after admitting he could not substantiate them, was officially removed from his position through a letter dated October 7, 2025, signed by Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda.
"This serves to notify you that pursuant to Standing Order No. 19 of the National Assembly, the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders (CSRO) has resolved to terminate your tenure as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Budget, Finance and Investment Promotion with immediate effect," Mudenda wrote.
"Please be guided accordingly. Consequently, all benefits and entitlements attendant upon the said role shall likewise be discontinued forthwith."
Mutodi's dismissal follows his public fallout with senior government officials after he accused Guvamatanga of corruption on social media — allegations that sparked widespread debate before he later issued a retraction.
His removal underscores the political sensitivity surrounding corruption allegations within government circles and has drawn criticism from some observers who view it as a warning to officials or legislators who publicly expose suspected graft.
