President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called on Zanu-PF members to step up mobilisation efforts and grow the party's membership base as the ruling party begins preparing for Zimbabwe's next harmonised general elections.
Addressing delegates at the 22nd Zanu-PF National People's Conference in Mutare on Friday, Mnangagwa urged unity and renewed energy across all party structures to ensure electoral readiness.
"Focus must be on guaranteeing the growth of our party membership in readiness for the harmonised general elections. Responsive strategies and approaches must be advanced to consolidate the visibility and influence of the Women, Youth and Veterans Leagues," Mnangagwa said.
According to Zimbabwe's Constitution, the next general elections are due in 2028, although speculation has persisted over the possibility of extending Mnangagwa's current term to 2030.
Mnangagwa said political mobilisation should be an ongoing process and encouraged party members to draw on their collective talents for the advancement of Zanu-PF's vision.
"Let us carry on recruiting and welcoming new members from all walks of life and harness the diverse skills of the membership for the ultimate good of our revolutionary movement," he said.
The President also cited the party's record in government as evidence of progress under Zanu-PF's stewardship, describing its achievements as a source of pride and inspiration for Zimbabweans both at home and abroad.
"Our national development philosophy is permeating to every Zimbabwean, including those in the Diaspora. Through this philosophy, we must safeguard our dignity and identity as truly independent Zimbabwean and African people," he said.
Mnangagwa further called for peace and unity within the party and the nation, saying: "Zimbabwe is a united, peaceful, and indivisible country."
