The eastern border city is facing a temporary water supply crisis following a major breakdown in its main transmission line, the City of Mutare has announced.
In a statement issued today, the local authority said the fault occurred on a 450mm clear water transmission line, disrupting water delivery to the Christmas Pass balancing tanks and consequently affecting supply across the city.
"Notice is hereby given to all customers and stakeholders that we have recorded a breakdown of the 450mm clear water transmission resulting in the reduced delivery of water to Christmas Pass balancing tanks, and thus affecting supply citywide," read part of the notice.
City officials said repair works are already underway and the situation is expected to be normalised within three days.
"The city will provide water bowsers at central points to distressed areas," the statement added.
Residents have been urged to use water sparingly during the outage period.
