A 79-year-old Mufakose woman has obtained a protection order against her three sons after enduring years of abuse and harassment in her own home.

The elderly mother, Faina Bhera, told the Harare Civil Court that her sons - Edson, Simon, and Morris Mususwa - had turned her life into a nightmare, refusing to leave the family home despite being married and having children of their own.

"They refused to leave the family home. They come back drunk and cause disturbances," she said tearfully in court. "I just want to find peace and to be protected from my own sons. They harass me and refuse to leave my house."

Bhera said each of her sons has a family - one with five children, another with four, and the third with one - but all continue to live in her home, making it impossible for her to live peacefully or rent out part of the property to earn an income.

"I want to accommodate tenants so I can put food on the table," she told the court.

The magistrate ruled in her favour, granting a protection order that bars the three brothers from visiting or harassing their mother at her home.

"Your three children - Edson, Simon, and Morris - must stay away from your house at 510 Magandanga Road in Mufakose and must not harass you," ruled the magistrate.

Bhera said she had previously served her sons with court summons, but they ignored them. "They chose to disregard the court," she said.

The ruling brings relief to the elderly mother, who said she had been "living in hell" in what was supposed to be her place of comfort and safety.
