President Boko delivered the remarks during a meeting with Zimbabwe's Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga on the sidelines of the Sub-Regional World Children's Day Commemorations in Gaborone, where the two leaders discussed ongoing cooperation and future partnership opportunities.
Speaking after the meeting, Vice President Chiwenga said he had conveyed President Emmerson Mnangagwa's greetings, noting that the Zimbabwean leader could not attend the commemorations.
"He (President Boko) expressed gratitude for the generous donation of ARV medications, as the consequences of missing these vital medications can be severe," said VP Chiwenga.
Zimbabwe donated a batch of ARV drugs to Botswana last month, structured as a 20 percent donation and an 80 percent loan, with Gaborone expected to repay the loaned portion in kind. The gesture has been widely viewed as a symbol of neighbourly solidarity and regional cooperation.
President Boko also praised the positive impact of Zimbabweans living in Botswana, describing them as model guests who have contributed significantly to the country's economy and social fabric.
While acknowledging that challenges occasionally arise, he told VP Chiwenga that "Zimbabweans have had a substantial positive impact here."
The meeting further explored opportunities for deeper economic collaboration, particularly as both nations confront changing dynamics in the diamond sector.
"Zimbabwe is keen to diversify our economy and work closely with Botswana to explore various opportunities," VP Chiwenga said.
The exchange reinforced the strong diplomatic and social ties between the two countries, underscoring a shared commitment to mutual support and regional development.
