WARRIORS forward Tawanda Maswanhise has been named among the Most Promising Talents at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which concluded on Sunday with Senegal lifting the trophy after defeating hosts Morocco.
The Scotland-based Maswanhise was recognised for his potential and performances with the Zimbabwe national football team during the tournament. His emergence in the Scottish Premiership has made him a standout talent, drawing attention for his pace, direct running, and goal-scoring ability.
Maswanhise earned a place in Zimbabwe's final AFCON squad and was expected to make a significant impact throughout the competition. His recent accolades, including being named Scottish Premiership Player of the Month and finishing among the league's top goal scorers, further highlighted his growing influence on the field.
"Congratulations to Tawanda Maswanhise for being named among the Most Promising Talents at AFCON 2025. You are not just making history; you are inspiring it. Zimbabwe couldn't be prouder," ZIFA said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Senegal secured their second TotalEnergies AFCON title with a 1–0 extra-time win over Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. Pape Gueye's 94th-minute strike settled a dramatic final that nearly descended into chaos during the closing moments of regulation time, capping off a tournament of both technical brilliance and high drama.
