FORMER Warriors defender Jimmy Dzingai faces a race against time if he hopes to secure Premiership football in the opening half of the 2026 season after being left out of CAPS United's pre-season tour to Malawi.
The veteran centre-back was not included in the travelling squad that left on Friday, effectively ending his chances of earning a contract under new coach Takesure Chiragwi.
Dzingai, who played a key role at the heart of Makepekepe's defence last season, had been training with the squad and was widely believed to be awaiting a final decision from the technical team. His omission from the Malawi trip, however, signals that the Green Machine have opted to move in a different direction.
Chiragwi, who joined CAPS United from Ngezi Platinum Stars ahead of the new campaign, appears satisfied with the defensive options he has assembled. He has brought in several trusted players from his former club, including Kudzai Chigwida, Nyasha Gurende and Talent Chamboko.
The trio bolster a backline that already featured Chitoshi, Wesley and Bruce upon Chiragwi's arrival, giving the coach a blend of continuity and familiarity as he shapes his squad for the 2026 season.
For Dzingai, the development means he must now look elsewhere for opportunities, with CAPS United's defensive department seemingly settled. With the transfer window still open, the experienced defender will be hoping another top-flight side moves swiftly to secure his services before the new season kicks off.
