A 47-year-old man from Cowdray Park in Bulawayo has been fined US$140 after he admitted to physically abusing his wife, including pouring urine on her blankets and assaulting her.
Muluki Mleya appeared before Western Commonage magistrate, Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube, facing a charge of physical abuse. He pleaded guilty to the offence.
The court initially sentenced Mleya to pay a fine of US$140, failing which he will serve two months in prison. The fine is payable on or before March 20.
Prosecutor Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete told the court that the accused and the complainant, Phumuzile Mhlanga (34), are husband and wife.
The incident occurred on February 10, 2026, at around 11PM. The court heard that Mleya denied his wife access to sleep on the bed, forcing her to sleep on the floor.
While she was lying on the floor, Mleya allegedly poured urine on her blankets and assaulted her with fists and open hands several times all over her body.
As a result of the assault, Mhlanga sustained bruises on her right hand, the court heard.
The matter was finalised following Mleya's guilty plea.
