Highlanders appoint interim leadership after tragic loss of executives

Highlanders Football Club has appointed an interim leadership team to ensure continuity following the deaths of chairman Retired Colonel Kenneth Mhlophe, vice-chairman Sifiso Siziba and treasurer Nkani Khoza in a road traffic accident.
The appointments were made during an emergency board meeting held on Friday under the chairmanship of Highlanders board chairman Luke Mnkandla.
Board member responsible for technical affairs, Kindman Ndlovu, has been appointed acting chairman, while Elkanah Dube will oversee the club's administrative affairs. Board secretary Matthew Sibindi has been tasked with supervising the club's financial operations.
The appointments follow Thursday night's fatal accident along the Bulawayo-Gweru Road, which claimed the lives of Mhlophe, Siziba and Khoza as they were returning from Kariba, where Highlanders had played ZPC Kariba in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match.
The crash also claimed the life of Highlanders supporter Mbalenhle Sibanda.
Mnkandla said the board moved swiftly to fill the leadership void and ensure the club's operations continue uninterrupted during the mourning period.
The interim leadership is expected to provide stability as Highlanders navigates one of the darkest chapters in its history, with the club mourning the loss of three senior executives who played pivotal roles in its administration.
The club said permanent leadership appointments will be made in accordance with its constitution once the official mourning period has concluded.
