SETH Patrick made an impressive debut for Premiership side Scottland in the CAF Champions League, helping the Zimbabwean champions secure passage to the first round of the competition after a goalless draw against Nsingizini Hotspurs in Eswatini.
The 26-year-old midfielder was handed his first appearance for a Zimbabwean club in a high-pressure continental assignment after joining Scottland during the mid-season transfer window.
Patrick, who has previously represented the Young Warriors, has spent much of his career playing in European football, featuring for Scottish clubs Brechin City and East Fife.
Ironically, his first appearance for a Zimbabwean club came for Scottland - a name that carries a familiar connection to the country where he built part of his football career.
With Scottland holding a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, coach Norman Mapeza threw Patrick straight into the starting line-up for the return leg at Somhlolo National Stadium.
The decision proved successful, with Patrick producing what his club described as an outstanding performance as Scottland held on to secure a 1-0 aggregate victory.
"Midfielder Seth Patrick made his full debut for Scottland and put up an outstanding display at the Somhlolo National Stadium," the club said on its social media platforms.
"Scottland and Nsingizini settled for an entertaining goalless draw in the CAF Champions League, preliminary round second leg.
"Scottland progress to the next round on a 1-0 goal aggregate."
Patrick's performance also drew praise from Marshall Gore, a United Kingdom-based football administrator who has worked with the midfielder in the past.
"Good to see our very own Seth Patrick, former Captain of Team Zimbabwe UK, playing a blinder for Scottland F.C in the CAF Champions League game in Eswatini," Gore said.
For Patrick, the debut represents an important new chapter in a career that has largely been built outside Zimbabwe.
Having established himself in the Scottish lower leagues and earned international recognition with the Young Warriors, he now has the opportunity to make his mark on the domestic Premiership and continental stage.
