Vendor to stand trial over Mnangagwa video

Chiredzi vendor Tafadzwa Nelton Matanhuse (32), who attracted widespread attention after criticising President Emmerson Mnangagwa and businessman Wicknell Chivayo over what he described as indifference to the plight of poor Zimbabweans, will stand trial on September 23, 2026, on charges of inciting public violence.
Matanhuse was given the trial date on Tuesday when he appeared before Chiredzi magistrate Lynne Chinzou.
The vendor was filmed criticising the demolition of vending stalls in Chiredzi and accusing Mnangagwa and Chivayo of being indifferent to the challenges facing ordinary citizens.
The video subsequently went viral, prompting police to launch a search for Matanhuse.
He later handed himself over to police on June 23, accompanied by his lawyer. He was charged with inciting public violence as defined under Section 187(1)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, as read with Section 36(1)(a) of the same Act.
Matanhuse spent two nights in custody before being granted US$200 bail by magistrate Tendai Mutamba on June 25.
As part of his bail conditions, he was ordered to report once a week at a local police station, reside at his stated address and refrain from interfering with State witnesses.
Kudakwashe Chirongoma appeared for the State.
