MYSTERY surrounding the purported recall of Bulawayo mayor David Coltart and four Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislators deepened on Friday after a faction led by self-styled party secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu denied initiating the move.

In a statement, Tshabangu's faction distanced itself from the purported recalls, denying that it had written to Parliament and the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works to notify them of the developments.

Those reportedly targeted include Coltart, Senator Ivumile Kucaca Phulu, Bulawayo Central legislator Surrender Kepoikilu, Mbizo MP Carban Madzivanyika and Epworth North MP Togarepi Zivai Mhetu.

The denial has raised further questions about the origins of the recall notices and who was behind the purported move.

CCC interim spokesperson Nqobizitha Mlilo said the purported recalls had no factual, political or legal basis and did not represent the party's position.

The latest developments have added to the uncertainty surrounding the alleged recalls, with the competing positions leaving questions over their authenticity and the circumstances in which the notices emerged.
