A Gweru man assaulted his wife for failing to bring him some condoms that he had instructed her to bring from clinic.
The 'condom man', Ginny Ncube (42) of Plot 9 Farm Two, Westblock , was on Friday arraigned before Gweru Magistrate, Ms Sithembiso Ncube to answer charges of assault. Ginny came smart and pleaded guilty to assaulting his wife, Ms Patience Ntini (31).
Magistrate Ncube sentenced Ginny Ncube to three months in prison.
Representing the State, Prosecutor Yeukai Mugumba said on 4 March at around 6am, Ms Ntini went to Mkoba Village 1 Clinic for treatment as she was not feeling well. She said when Ms Ntini was about to leave home, her husband, Ncube, instructed her to bring him some condoms from the clinic.
Prosecutor Mugumba said Ms Ntini immediately turned down her husband's seemingly weird request. She said when Ncube arrived home at around 11pm, he asked his wife if she had brought the condoms he asked for in the morning.
The court heard that Ms Ntini told her husband that she had not brought any condoms for him and an argument ensued. Ncube became angry and grabbed his wife by the neck. The court heard that Ncube hit Ms Ntini's head against the door and slapped her thrice on the right cheek.
Ms Mugumba told the court that Ms Ntini's young sister came into the room to stop her brother-in-law from further bashing her sister. Ms Ntini took advantage of that and fled to their neighbour's house where she spent the night.
The following morning, Ms Ntini reported the matter at Gweru Rural Police leading to the arrest of Ncube who was seemingly in desperate need of 'adult balloons'.
