Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo has confirmed that he has purchased a luxury mansion in the affluent Cape Town suburb of Clifton, revealing that he and his family recently moved into the property.
In a social media post, Chivayo said the property and its furnishings cost approximately R160 million, describing the acquisition as a worthwhile investment.
"We were welcomed to our new home in Clifton/Cape Town last weekend. A cool R160 million in total well spent including everything done and delivered with utmost class and attention to detail. God is the greatest," Chivayo wrote.
He also thanked designer Stephen Pelerade and his team for their work on the project.
"Thank you Mr Stephen Pelerade and your entire staff at Pelerade Design House. You are the best there is in the business," he said.
The luxury residence was designed by SAOTA and is situated on a mountainside site bordering the Table Mountain National Park, offering panoramic views of Table Bay and Robben Island.
According to details shared online, the four-bedroom property features high-end finishes and amenities, including French oak flooring, custom Murba wood detailing, a designer Eurocasa kitchen, a penthouse-style master suite, entertainment facilities, gymnasium, home theatre space, wine cellar provision and a Kone lift serving all four floors.
The residence is regarded as one of the most prestigious properties in Clifton, an area known for some of South Africa's most expensive real estate and sought-after oceanfront homes.
The purchase adds to Chivayo's growing portfolio of luxury assets and has sparked significant debate on social media, where users have questioned the source of the businessman's wealth and the scale of his recent acquisitions.
Chivayo has frequently made headlines for displaying high-value purchases, including luxury vehicles, properties and gifts to public figures, often sharing details of the acquisitions on social media platforms.
While supporters have praised his business success and philanthropy, critics have continued to raise questions about the origins of his wealth, particularly given his association with several high-profile government-linked contracts over the years.
The latest property acquisition is likely to further fuel public discussion around Chivayo, who remains one of Zimbabwe's most polarising businessmen.
