AN elderly Harare woman yesterday told the court that she jumped over a pre-cast wall with her husband of 33 years in hot pursuit wielding a hoe after she denied him his conjugal rights.
Martha Chikumure, who accused her husband Samuel Chikumure of infecting her with sexually transmitted diseases each time they have sex, wanted a protection order against him.
She pleaded with a Harare Civil Court magistrate Ms Olivia Mariga to stop Samuel from getting sex from her.
"He married another woman whose husband died after a long illness. . . What baffles me is that my husband doesn't know what killed this man but is willing to sleep with the woman. Each time he comes to my house he infects me with sexually transmitted diseases, I am still getting treatment," she said.
The court heard that Martha was no longer interested in sleeping with her husband anymore.
She also told the court that Samson was an abusive father who at one point chased their 13-year-old daughter from home and believed all the children were not his.
She added that since her husband married the new wife, he no longer took care of her.
She is now demanding US$250 as maintenance for herself.
In response, Samson argued that he still loved his wife but it seemed she had lost love for him.
"She has no tangible story to tell here. The child she is talking about is now 22-years-old and has her own family," he said.
Samson said he gave his wife a cow as a token to introduce his new wife and was confused with the allegations being levelled against him.
After hearing arguments from both parties, Ms Mariga advised Martha that the court could not interfere with the couple's sexual life.
Ms Mariga, however, granted the protection order in Martha's favour and advised her to apply for maintenance if she wanted money for her upkeep.
