A Harare man is in the habit of baptising his wife with urine at the height of altercations has appeared in court over the issue.

Patience Pundo told the Harare civil court yesterday how her husband, Munashe Murangwani, abuses her by urinating in containers before pouring it on her.

Presiding magistrate Olivia Mariga also heard how Munashe assaults and insults his wife in public.

"He cannot control his anger and is very abusive. He always assaults me and goes to the extent of urinating in containers and pours the urine on my face. He used to abuse me even when I was pregnant, causing me to go through a lot of pain. Sometimes he takes buckets of water and pours the contents on me and our property," she revealed.

Patience said she doesn't remember the day violence has not been their staple.

"This has become the way we live. Our bed is always wet and he destroys property. I wish the courts could help us restore sanity in our home and protect me along with the children," she added.

Munashe did not dispute baptising his wife with urine. He came clean and said he doesn't have a problem with his wife being granted a protection order against him.

Magistrate Mariga granted the protection order in Patience's favour.
