A STICKY-fingered Nyazura man was recently nabbed by Mutare Spar security staff after he was allegedly caught stealing bottles of Viceroy and Amarula worth $100.
The incident happened barely a week after a Sakubva woman was apprehended in the same supermarket after allegedly stealing 1kg Margarine and 2 litres of cooking oil both worth $14,89.
Enock Masamba of Village 4, Chipembere, Nyazura, allegedly stuffed the bottles of the wise waters in the pockets of his large jacket.
He ran out of luck after the suspecting personnel stopped him for a search.
He was found with bottles 4 x 750ml Amarula and 4 x 750ml Viceroy. The Sakubva woman, Memory Kadiki of House Number 232, New Chisamba, also hid the groceries in her purse. She was caught by the security personnel before she found her way out of the shop.
For the past three months, more than six people were nabbed by the ever-watchful Spar Supermarket security personnel. Spar operations manager Mr Patrick Mapuranga said although the thieves were using the same modus operandi, none of them had succeeded.
"We will continue to tighten our security in light of this. This is worrying and we urge people to work for themselves to earn a decent living rather than humiliating themselves by engaging in such criminal activities," he said.
