A CHIMANIMANI man appeared before Mutare magistrate Sekai Chiundura yesterday facing an attempted murder charge after he allegedly repeatedly stabbed his wife with a spear last week following a domestic dispute.
Phillip Ndachengedzwa was remanded in custody to November 10 and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
According to State papers, on October 24 this year, Ndachengedzwa, who had a long-standing dispute with his wife Nomalami Magodhi, savagely attacked her with a spear after she she proposed to terminate the marriage.
In a fit of rage, Ndachengedzwa allegedly locked his wife inside their bedroom and stabbed her on the left hand, forehead and in the stomach.
The woman screamed for help and a neighbour, Loveness Beta, rushed to the scene and opened the door and found her lying on the ground bleeding from the stomach with Ndachengedzwa still clutching the blood-stained spear.
Ndachengedzwa immediately bolted out of the house.
Magodhi was initially taken to Ngorima Clinic, but was further referred to Mutare Provincial Hospital for treatment.
