'There is just nothing respectable about Mugabe's leadership'

A prominent Journalist and Editor of the Zimbabwe Independent Dumisani Muleya has warned those who are bent on defending President Robert Mugabe by lashing out at the Nigerian journalists who humiliated him during his visit to that country to be worried about protecting the journalism profession than to protect the president who at some point attacked the other nationals Nigerians included.
This come after Information Media and Broadcasting Services minister Jonathan Moyo described the Nigerian journalist and Boko Haram journalists attacking them for humiliating President Mugabe.
"Those who are genuinely concerned about the incident's impact on journalism ethics should be more worried about protecting the reputation of the profession, not Mugabe's image," said Muleya through his facebook post.
"Let's protect journalism, not Mugabe. Of course those on Mugabe's payroll have an obligation to defend him, so that's not an issue; its to be expected. Look Mugabe deserves respect as an elderly person in our true ubuntu tradition, but there is just nothing respectable about his leadership of Zim or the AU."
He said after all this is the same leader who calls his own fellow citizens and other Africans names - remember his crude slurs against Nigerians, South Africans, Jamaicans, Zimbabweans in diaspora, Khoi-Sans, Kalangas and the so-called "totemless people (immigrants)", among many others.
"Self-righteous outrage or rather acting holier-than-thou on Mugabe's behalf is simply hypocritical," said Muleya.
Mugabe had a torrid time in dealing with the Nigerian journalists who were asking him as to when he will step down accusing him of violating democracy in Zimbabwe. They further said it was high time he should step down as he has ruled for over 30 years.
