Former Minister of Energy and Power Development, Mr. Elias Mudzuri , is reported to have emerged the best candidate to fill the vacancy left by the late Minister of Public Service, Mr. Eliphas Mukonoweshuro, ZBC News reported.
Reports say MDC-T president, Mr. Morgan Tsvangirai had to bow down to pressure to endorse the move.
As the battle to replace the late Eliphas Mukonoweshuro within the MDC-T camp gathers momentum, it has emerged that there has been fierce jostling for the cabinet post.
While some reports had indicated that political activist-cum-politician, Ms. Lucia Matibenga had recently landed the post whilst latest reports trickling in revealed a different picture.
Sources close to the development said three candidates namely Lucia Matibenga, MDC-T spokesperson, Mr. Douglas Mwonzora and Engineer Elias Mudzuri were thrown into the fray.
The three were spotted at the party's headquarters in Harare on Wednesday, in what observers say was a move to seek audience with MDC-T Secretary General, Mr. Tendai Biti.
ZBC has it on good authority that the three candidates presented their position to Mr. Biti but sources in Mr. Tsvangirai's offices revealed that Mudzuri's name has finally received the nod from the party's executive, leaving Matibenga and Mwonzora in the cold.
Other sources revealed that the MDC-T executive's move to give the nod to Mudzuri did not go down well with Mr. Tsvangirai who prefers Mwonzora amid revelations that Matibenga's name has been finally dropped due to unspecified reasons.
Observers say daggers will definitely be drawn as Mr. Tsvangirai sees Engineer Mudzuri as a big threat to take over the party presidency.
