A Chitungwiza man who head-butted and punched his wife on the mouth on Christmas Day following a domestic dispute has been sentenced to four months in prison.
Munyaradzi Tsambadzi (35) of Zengeza 2 pleaded guilty to physical abuse charges before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo.
Mr Murendo slapped him with a seven-month prison term but conditionally set aside three months for five years.
In handing down the sentence, Mr Murendo noted that Tsambadzi's moral blameworthiness was high.
"You abused Christmas since it is the time for families to be merry-making. You decided to turn your wife into a punching bag. The force used was unwarranted as your wife had not provoked you," said Mr Murendo.
Mr Murendo added that people of Tsambadzi's behaviour deserved a custodial sentence.
The State's case was that on Christmas Day at around 2:15am Tsambadzi arrived home while his wife Revai Mukoneri (31) was sleeping.
Mukoneri asked Tsambadzi to close the door when he went out of the house, but he left it open.
When Mukoneri asked him to close the door, the court heard that Tsambadzi became angry and started hurling obscenities calling his wife a prostitute.
Tsambadzi head-butted Mukoneri and punched her on the mouth. She sustained a swollen lip and forehead.
The matter was reported to the police leading to his arrest.
