THE Movement for Democratic Change faction led by Prime Minister Mr Morgan Tsvangirai's has said it does "not care" about the Gukurahundi massacres.
Addressing youths at a meeting organized by civic society outfit – National Youth Development Trust – the party's secretary for National Healing, Mrs Concilia Chinanzvavana , said her party is "not expected to play a leading role" in issues concerning Gukurahundi.
She said the Matabeleland problem is not an MDC-T issue but a Government Issue.
"You should not expect MDC-T to be key players in solving issues in Matabeleland, as of the present moment, we are distancing ourselves from that part of the country for a moment, and as such Matabeleland should be looked at by Government.
"As the MDC-T, we are advocating for the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission because that is only when true healing will take place amongst people, how are people expected to heal when there is no justice and there is no truth about what really happened," she said.
These statements from the MDC-T have attracted serious criticism from Matabeleland activists who feel the MDC-T is acting unfaithfully to the people of Matabeleland.
Mbuso Fuzwayo the secretary general of Ibhetshu likaZulu said the MDC-T has demonstrated that they are a Shona movement, using Ndebeles for political power only.
"These people (MDC-T) are just a Shona movement bent on sponsoring and promoting Shona supremacy. They come here in Bulawayo, make noise about Gukurahundi to win votes then turn around and eat with massacres of our relatives.
"Besides, who expected anything from them, when they are lead by a person (Mr Morgan Tsvangirai) who deflated Joshua Nkomo's car tires in Masvingo during the very same dark era for Ndebele extermination," said Mr Fuzwayo.
Whereas Nhlanhla Bahlangene Dube the spokesperson of the other MDC formation led by Professor Welshman Ncube said the people of Matabeleland must remember what MDC-T has said when they vote.
"When the people of this region vote, they must remember what the MDC-T has said. Remember that their relatives who were raped and buried alive are not an issue at MDC-T. Even Thabitha Khumalo must know that.
"The MDC-T policy on Gukurahundi is let bygones be bygones, the dead are dead, so what, its not our issue. We are just a party of excellence and have nothing to do with the dead, no matter from which region and the circumstances of their death," said Mr Dube
