Police release names of 17 people killed in road accidents on 17 December

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of people who lost their lives in three separate road traffic accidents that occurred on December 17 in Nyamapanda, Ruwa and Nyabira.
In a statement issued on Saturday, December 20, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said all the victims had been positively identified by their next of kin.
The deadliest accident occurred along the Harare–Nyamapanda Road, where 10 people were killed in a head-on collision involving a Honda Fit and a haulage truck. The crash happened between 11:30am and noon at the 185-kilometre peg near the Suswe area. Police said the Honda Fit, which was travelling from Mutoko to Kotwa and carrying 10 occupants, veered into the lane of oncoming traffic and collided with a haulage truck heading towards Harare with four occupants on board. All 10 occupants of the Honda Fit died on the spot, while none of the truck occupants was reported to have died.
The deceased from the Nyamapanda accident were identified as Gachirai Tahwina (36) of Chinzanga, Mutoko, who was the driver of the Honda Fit; Anesu Nyani (25) of Glen View 3, Harare; Kudakwashe Mudiwakure (33) of Kaitano Village, Mudzi; Rumbidzai Musimbiro (48) of Maruza Village, Mudzi; Tadiwanashe Nyandoro (32) of Maruza Village, Mudzi; Miriam Portia Kunaka (30) of Tsiko Village, Mudzi; Moilla Kunaka (26) of Tsiko Village, Mudzi; Shannel Muchato (2) of Tsiko Village, Mudzi; Lucas Morais Jone (28); and Nenyasha Mapato, an infant aged one year and six months, also of Tsiko Village, Mudzi.
In a second incident on the same day, three people were killed and 15 others injured when a Toyota Hiace kombi overturned along the Harare–Mutare Road near Masimba Gardens in Ruwa. The accident occurred at around 11:45am at the 32.5-kilometre peg. Police said the kombi was carrying 18 passengers when its right rear tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle overturned before landing on its left side. Those who died in the Ruwa crash were identified as Dorothy Chizuva (45) of Mupanga Village, Glendale; Victoria Manjokoto (16) of Stoneridge, Harare; and Carlos Ganyaupfu (35) of Eastview, Harare.
The third accident claimed four lives near Nyabira along the Harare–Chirundu Road. The crash occurred at around 2pm at the 37-kilometre peg when a minibus carrying 14 passengers suffered a burst rear right tyre, causing it to overturn several times before coming to rest on its left side. The deceased were identified as Mutsikwa Mudzimba (44) of Meadow Crescent, Hatfield, Harare; Nicholas Esaya (20) of Damba Village, Mhangura; Kisha Chitundu, a nine-month-old infant from Kilimadagi Village, Mapinga; and Joel Gogo (70) of Budiriro 3, Harare.
Commissioner Nyathi expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists to exercise caution on the country's roads. He appealed to drivers to prioritise road safety and strictly observe traffic rules and regulations to safeguard human lives.
