HARARE - President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called on Zimbabweans, especially the youth, to visit historic liberation war shrines to gain deeper insight into the country's hard‑won independence and sovereignty.
Speaking at the burial of the late Brigadier General (Rtd) Mark Charles Chimwaza, Mnangagwa said both urban and rural communities played a vital role in the liberation struggle.
"I urge more of our people, especially the youths across all levels, to deliberately visit various historic liberation war shrines. This will provide insights into what the young people of yesteryear endured to bring about the freedom, sovereignty and independence which we must never take for granted," Mnangagwa said.
"The youth, along with the rest of our rural and urban populations, made conscious decisions to fight or support the liberation struggle," he added.
Mnangagwa also emphasised the collective responsibility to build on existing foundations by defending and advancing Zimbabwe's national development aspirations.
