President Mugabe has promoted 37 Zimbabwe National Army field officers to the rank of lieutenant-colonel.
They were all promoted in line with Section 15 (1) B of the Defence Act, Chapter 11:02 with effect from February 26 this year.
Speaking on behalf of ZNA Commander Lieutenant-General Philip Valerio Sibanda, Brigadier-General (Administration Staff) Shylet Moyo said promotions came as a result of hard work exhibited during the discharge of duties.
"On behalf of Commander ZNA, let me assertively express that your promotion came as a result of the hard work and tireless efforts you have exhibited during your discharge of duties in various capacities. It is prudent therefore to remind you that being promoted to the rank of lieutenant-colonel is a gesture of goodwill, trust and confidence.
"As military officers, we are there to serve the State as custodians of our Constitution, which has been agreed by the people."
Brig-Gen Moyo said the newly promoted members were expected to work extra hard to enhance their effectiveness and efficiency in discharging their duties, adding that the higher they rose in terms of promotion the more challenges they faced.
