A 15-MEMBER Zanu-PF delegation flew to China yesterday on an exchange programme on economic development with their Communist Party of China counterparts.
The visit is part of the Zanu-PF/CPC exchange programmes that the two ruling political parties have embarked on since 2005 following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.
The delegation is led by Central Committee member for Manicaland province Dr Ellen Gwaradzimba.
They will return home on March 18.
Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration Dr Ignatius Chombo, who addressed the party members, said the two political parties were committed to sharing experiences.
"This year's visit will focus on economic development, party construction and senior cadre training. Your delegation will be travelling to Shenzhen one of China's success stories in the establishment of special economic zones.
"You will meet party and government officials who will share with you what the Communist Party of China has done to develop their economy," he said.
Dr Chombo, who is also Home Affairs Minister, told the delegation that China experienced economic decline during the early 70s until the Communist Party of China introduced reforms that propelled economic development.
"Today, China ranks the second largest economy in the world after the United States of America. Your delegation was nominated with a deliberate effort to focus on economic departments as we move towards the accelerated implementation of economic programmes.
"I am hopeful that you will actively participate in the discussions with CPC officials drawing lessons that can help Zimbabwe and Zanu-PF to develop sustainable economic programmes through the various portfolios your represent," he said.
Dr Chombo said during their stay in China, they will learn about CPC grassroots structures and how leadership undergoes training to effectively implement party resolutions and policies.
"I am hopeful that the delegation will learn how CPC focuses the country towards achieving national goals. Key in achieving economic development is a vibrant party and proper training of leaders in both party and government.
"You will also realise that party supremacy is recognised by all Chinese people," he said.
Dr Chombo said discipline and punctuality were important elements to their training in China.
Since the MOU took effect, Zanu-PF and CPC have implemented various initiatives like exchange programmes, economic workshops, business forums and study tours under the framework of the co-operation.
At Government level, a multiplicity of agreements have been signed and implemented over the years.
