Zanu PF outspoken youth member Energy Mutodi has described the late Cephas Msipa who was a former Zanu PF Politburo member as a true son of the soil who fought for the liberation of the country.

Cde Msipa died early morning on Monday at Westend hospital where he has been hospitalized for the past two weeks.

"A passionate administrator and politician, Cde Msipa participated in the liberation of Zimbabwe and represented the ANC and ZAPU during negotiations such as the Geneva conference that aimed at bringing independence to Zimbabwe," Mutodi said.

"He was born on 7 July 1931 and trained as a teacher at Dadaya in 1951. He became a school headmaster between 1959 to 1964 and headed several schools in Salisbury including Mufakose and Highfield. In 1961, he became President for the Rhodesian Teachers' Association and also joined ZAPU the same year."

He said in 1964, due to his political activism, the Rhodesian government dismissed him from the teaching profession.

"In 1971, he was appointed shadow Foreign Affairs Minister of the ANC and in 1975 he became secretary of Education and participated in the Geneva Conference representing the ANC in 1976," Mutodi said.

"After Zimbabwe independence, President Mugabe appointed Cde Msipa to various cabinet posts including the Deputy Minister of Youths & Manpower Development, Water Resources & Development Minister and later as Governor of Midlands apart from being a politburo member. Cde Msipa retired from active politics in December 2014. There is no question about his hero status. The politburo is expected to confer him with a national hero status."

He said Msipa had remained one of the most outstanding politicians of our time, speaking out his mind and has been popular in his last days for urging President Mugabe to retire and make way for a successor.

"Msipa is an outstanding son of the soil, a true nationalist, fair minded elder and revolutionary who will be missed by all Zimbabweans from across the political devide," he said.
