Former controversial Zanu PF youth member Fidelis Fengu has rapped the war veterans over their demands for $500 000 pay outs indicating that the demand is unsustainable and out of reach.
He said he remembers what his father a quiet ZIPRA cadre once said about war vets and compensation.
"He said patriotism does not require medals , or compensation , a functioning country that has equal opportunities for everyone is the best reward a patriot can get," Fengu said.
"Now, real war veterans will not demand money, who will foot the bill of their demands , the same masses who cooked for them , endured torture to save the war veterans and the struggle. Can a fish in water ask for compensation from the water hosting it? Those demanding compensation are probably not patriots just opportunists. Zimbabwe cannot afford this."
The war vets made strange demands of payment of $500 000 from the government of President Robert Mugabe as their war with Mugabe over consideration of the G40 rags on.
