Mopane Foundation International (MFI), a recently registered charity Registered Charity Number 1167272 (in England and Wales) recently held its first anniversary fundraising charity ball on 15 October at the Centerplate, Hillsborough Stadium Sheffield. The event attracted attendees nationwide and was well attended. 27 attendees pledged to sponsor a child for the accademic year 2017 and a few made ongoing pledges. Each child fees, uniforms and basic stationary is costing around $150/annum. We are therefore appealing for more sponsors, donations through http://www.mopanefoundation.org/donate/.
Mopane Foundation International gives financial support to underprivileged school going-age orphans in rural Matebeleland, Zimbabwe and currently is sponsoring 30 kids in Matebeleland North and South ranging from Grade 1 to Form 1 and will be moving into Midlands from 2017 by sponsoring some kids in Shurugwi and the number is increasing to 40.
The organisation is targeting school-going age orphans from remote areas as the team feels the plight of those kids are seldomly heard of. The organisan's project leader Nomsa Neke states she spent a week earlier in the year visiting and talking to each of the 30 kids the organisation sponsors in their schools and she feels there isn't much that is done to highlight their plight. 'I am aware the organisation can not reach all the deserving kids but we can surely make the difference to the few we can. We can at least try to be the mouthpiece of any disadvantaged orphans in rural Africa' she says.
Our work is on-going, there is never any dull moment. Everyone in our team is doing charity work on volunteer basis whilst on full time employment. Everyone is doing out of love for children and the future generation of our country. While Nomsa is already preparing to go on a self-funded field trip in the new year the whole team in already planning for 2017's annual fundraising event
Other than monetary donations, we are currently looking for school essentials for the kids; mathematics sets, scientific calculators, rulers, pens and satchels. Our team is working tireless behind the scenes in collaboration with peer community stalwarts as we believe it takes a village to raise a child and we believe it takes all of us including you combat this.
All donation cheques are to be made payable to Mopane Foundation International and sent to 18 Holgate Avenue, Sheffield, S5 9LL. Alternatively, donations can be deposited in the Foundation Barclays account through http://www.mopanefoundation.org/donate/
