An Injiva collapsed at Stanmore Business Centre of Gwanda after chugging down 1.25 litres of Chibuku opaque beer popular known as Batai Munhu.
Eye witnesses report that a Toyota Quantum Kombi carrying a group of mourners from South Africa and towing a trailer with the body of the deceased stopped at the business centre for a toilet break when a visibly drunk mourner jumped out of the kombi and ran straight to a bottle store. On getting to the bottle store he asked for a bottle of coke and a quarter of vodka. The man was very disappointed when the bar lady told him that she did not have vodka.
Reports say that the man looked around the bar and saw the newly introduced product from Delta Beverages which he obviously had never seen nor drank and enquired what it was. When it was explained to him he asked for two of them.
At that moment the other mourners who were in a hurry demanded that he gets in the car. Unknown to him, the carbonated beer has a special way of opening. He shook it too much and quickly opened it spraying a couple of well dressed mourners some in a church uniform.
The man who would not take the idea of him parting with $5.00 most likely reserved for more beer instead asked them to give him just two minutes to do justice to his beer.
He stepped outside and guzzled the 4% alcohol content brew in less than the two minutes he asked for. According to witnesses "it took the man just a few seconds his eyes turned round and round before he thumped to the ground like a bag of peanuts."
The other mourners had to quickly rush out and give the man some first aid before he stood up confused after about 5 minutes. According to witnesses, the other passengers in the kombi indicated that the man had been drinking disorderly all the way from Johannesburg and had refused to eat anything along the way.
The brew has a very strong warning on it against drinking to excess.
