Zimbabweans travelling to and from South Africa could be stranded at the BeitBridge Border post as South African immigration officials are reportedly on strike.

According to a statement by South Africa's Home Affairs Department, workers planned to embark on a strike from today.

However, the strike is said to be illegal.

In a statement  from the Director-General for the Department of Home Affairs, Mkuseli Apleni, he  warned against a planned illegal strike by some Home Affairs officials against the new opening and closing hours set to be operationalised  from today.

"We have been reliably informed that there are some officials who are planning to engage in an illegal strike. We therefore wish to send a warning to any official who participates in this illegal activity that the Department will not hesitate to exercise its authority and deal decisively with those participating by taking disciplinary measures which may include dismissal," says DG Apleni.
